looking at sales from 5 years ago and today it is clear that the playstation family is selling at lot less than it did. Nintendo are the big winners over the past few years.
I agree that the ps3 has shown impressive growth considering its price over the last year but for sony as a whole this is being offset by the natural decline of the ps2. In a few years the ps2 will cease to exist and sony will be left in a fight for second instead of way out front in first.

You can say the same about the ps3 and wii which have struggled to sell certain games. Its just the way it is.

I think only Microsoft will know whether the xbox venture was a worthwhile one. From a consumer viewpoint we see increasing sales but from an economic viewpoint the financial losses are huge. However I do think that Microsoft's aim is to stop sony's growth and with this they are exceeding. At least they have so far.
both ps3 and wii have significantly dropped from last year. Whilst xbox sales are so low their growth rates are hardly denting the market. I don't know what is wrong with Japan but handheld gaming seems to be where its at. The DS outsold the ps2 in half the time whilst Japan is the only region where the ps2 is ahead of the wii if launces are aligned (roughly 8.5 million vs 7.5 million).

Its perfectly reasonable for microsoft to be 28 million shipped at the end of december. Nobody has any evidence they are lying and are just basing their accusations off a dislike for the company. Come on show me actual evidence they are lying?!

Why all the hate. Constructive critisim yes - a few articles on the ps3's struggling sales would do not the millions of overreacting articles. All the hate for any of the consoles is completely undeserved. Gamers should be happy there are 3 good companies in the industry increasing competition and keeping prices down. I don't buy into the MS bribed them claims there is absolutely no evidence but recently sony has been getting an unjust ride from the media. Stop!

I can tell you its from e3 2003. I guarantee you its real I remember being amazed at the time by how sony presented it. Its not as if what they were saying was wrong either - the ps2 had killed the competition - but still I don't know why people here seem to think sony are gods. They are a company like everyone else and there is evidence of them discounting the competition after 1 year on the market!

I remember nintendo getting flamed last gen for always mentioning growth rates because comparing actual sales would make them look bad. It looks like sony has learned this neat trick too this gen.

close to 50 million. The ps2 at the same timeframe was just passing 30 million for comparison. Ps3 will be just under 20 million, 8 million behind the 360 but ahead if launches are aligned.

they report shipped numbers exactly like nintendo and microsoft. All companies are the same there is absolutely no evidence to disprove this. Any evidence that people seem to give seems to just be a misinterpretation of statements. If the big 3 say they mean 'sold' we should interpret that as sold to retailers - it is the retailers who buy it off them. The level of stupidity on here is frightning at times.
they both made profits and sold reasonably well for a new IP. I don't know how you can possibly come up with that conclusion. Lips and SOCOM were the biggest commercial failures IMO. LPB and resistance 2 sold well too.
before 2008 the 360 had been the oldest console ever not to get a pricecut (apart from now the wii). The complaints december 2007 in Europe were in fact too expensive and why will they never get a price cut. And now Ms are being flamed for finally giving price cuts in 2008?
